Amazing Portal Generator

A Web portal is a Web page that provides an entry point to the World Wide Web. A portal provides links to information either at the same site or at other sites on the Web. It may also provide buttons to do a Web search, get a stock quote, or retrieve a local weather forecast.

A Web portal can also be used to link to a company's internal Web site on a local area network. This is known as an intranet. The same portal can have both local links and World Wide Web links.

RTG's Amazing Portal Generator -- the APG for short -- lets you design your own Web portal. You can choose links from the list provided or add your own. You can include pre-defined buttons and descriptive labels.

The portal created by the APG consists of a title and a table. The table contains columns which display your links, buttons, and labels. A footer line runs across the bottom of the table and is typically used to identify the creator of the page.

You may arrange the links, buttons, and labels in any order. You can use one column or several columns.

You may choose a color scheme for your Web portal. Several suggested schemes are provided.

When your design is complete, the APG writes your Web portal to a disk file. When you click the Start Browser button, your Web browser should start up and display the portal. Now you can see what the portal really looks like and make further changes.

As you develop your Web portal, it is convenient to display the portal in your browser at the same time that the APG is running. After you make a change using the APG, click Save in the APG to write the portal file to the disk. Click Reload or Refresh in your browser to display the changed portal.

You do not need to know HTML, the language of the Web, to create a Web portal with the APG. Your design specifications are translated by the APG into the appropriate HTML commands.
